My dog ate ibuprofen.
How serious?
Advil, Motrin, generic, ibuprofen has no safe dose in dogs. Severity depends on mg per kg. Cats: roughly HALF these thresholds, if a cat ate any amount, skip the math and call now.
Vomiting blood, wobbly, or a CAT involved? Call 855-764-7661 NOWPublished thresholds (dogs)
GI signs (vomiting, diarrhea, appetite loss) from about 25 mg/kg. Stomach/intestinal ulceration from about 100 mg/kg. Kidney injury from about 175 mg/kg. Neurological signs (wobbling, seizures) at very high doses near 400 mg/kg. One 200 mg tablet crosses the 25 mg/kg line for any dog under about 18 lb.
Why "he seems fine" is misleading
Ulcers and kidney injury develop over 1-5 days. The treatable window is early, decontamination and GI protectants work best before signs appear.
What NOT to do
Do not give any "counteracting" human medication. Do not induce vomiting without professional direction. Never give ibuprofen to a dog or cat on purpose, there are vet-prescribed NSAIDs designed for their metabolism.
